One of our most successful programs remains our Junior ROTC Awards Program. Awards in the form of certificates and a medal are awarded to deserving cadets selected by their detachment commanders. These awards are most frequently viewed by the Junior ROTC detachments as the most prestigious of their annual awards. Flight #4 members in good standing travel to present these awards in person, usually in association with an event or dinner sponsored by the respective detachment. Our Flight presents these awards to Junior ROTC detachments in the Northern Virginia, D.C., and Maryland areas.
Flight #4 is pleased to offer deserving students an increased opportunity to find their paths to military aviation via it's scholarship program. The Flight offers up to 2 annual scholarships of $1,500 to individuals interested in becoming military pilots. The flight also participates in the National Order's Scholarship program by encouraging individuals to apply for their scholarships. Funds for the scholarships are raised solely through contributions of the flights members. The National Order further supports the local chapter by providing matching funds for Flight selected scholarship recipients.. For information, contact our scholarship director, Mr. Gary Palmer at email@example.com.
Flight #4 presents a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington Cemetery every Memorial Day. The wreath is presented on behalf of the National Organization and is presented in the Green and Gold Colors of the Order. Members in good standing of the Flight volunteer to present the wreath on behalf of the flight and the National Order. Members are encouraged to wear the uniform of their service or a heritage uniform. Flight #4 has presented a wreath at the tomb for the last 39 years!
Our location within the National Capital Region means we are privileged to have access to some of the key decision-makers of our military along with some of the historic figures of our country. As such, we use our monthly meetings as a forum for distinguished individuals to present their opinions on key issues regarding air power, the military, aviation, and the defense industry. Our recent speakers have included the highest aviation leadership of the services, defense industry presidents, authors, think tank fellows, and political leaders. Our programs encourage current members of the military to participate and attend these enlightening forums.
As the premier flight organization within the National Capital Region, Flight #4 sponsors an Annual Aviator of the Year. Awardees must have made significant accomplishments to aviation while serving as an active pilot in the NCR area. All services can compete for the award including Davidson Army Air Field, Joint Base Bolling-Anacostia, the Navy Yard, and Andrews Air Force Base. The award is presented in the Fall and includes membership in the National Order and the local flight.
